SESSIONS DECRIES BIRMINGHAM’S DECISION TO CANCEL CHURCH OF THE HIGHLANDS SERVICES

June 24, 2020, Birmingham, Ala.- Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions held a press conference in Birmingham on Wednesday at Woodlawn High School. This press conference was made to discuss the issues and concerns with the Church of Highlands.

Sessions gave remarks on the importance of religious liberty and address the anti-religious actions taken by the government of Birmingham against the Church of Highlands.

The Church of Highlands is a life-giving church meeting in multiple locations throughout Central Alabama and has also done something great for the city of Birmingham. Chris Hodges is the founding and senior pastor of Church of the Highlands. Ever since 2001, Highlands has grown to have campuses across the state of Alabama and are known for their life-giving culture and focus on leading people to having a relationship with God.

In stating this, Sessions mentioned how he feels like it is unfair how the Birmingham to rule out the church because of a social media post.

He continues to mention all the positive and great qualities the church has done in the past and recently in the state of Alabama. The church has a deep passion in developing strong leaders, helping them break barriers and reach their growth potential.

Canceling the Church of Highlands programs because of misleading tweet will affect several people. Sessions believes that it is a bad thing to take away their funding in helping people who are in need of assistance. Stopping the church benefits for students would be a disadvantage in their success as students.

Sessions feels as if the church shouldn’t have to suffer because of one mistake. He stated that in this great country everyone has the right to their own viewpoints and opinions. He stated that it is a bad thing to deny the church in what they are entitled to.

In response to this matter, Sessions stated, “There is no better time, no more important time to defend freedom of speech when it’s under attack.”
